Video: Fleeing Driver Slams into Mass. Police Cruisers, Almost Hits Officers
Recently released dashboard and body camera footage from an incident last month captured a man who used his car as a weapon to flee Massachusetts police by repeatedly slamming into multiple cruisers and almost running down officers in a parking lot.
The confrontation happened at about 4:30 p.m. Sept. 22 when Weymouth police responded to a report of a person acting erratically at a laundromat, WHDH-TV reports. Officers began talking with the man—identified as Djeff Josa, 29—but he went into neighboring store before coming back out and returning to his car.
Once he was behind the wheel, Josa repeatedly backed up his car into nearby cruisers in the parking lot, hitting three patrol cars. The footage also shows Josa almost struck multiple officers who were out of their vehicles.
Police ordered Josa to exit his car and surrender, but he didn't comply and eventually was able to get his damaged vehicle onto the road.
A chase ensued, and it continued until Josa finally crashed in a wooded area. He was arrested and will undergo a medical evaluation after pleading not guilty to assault, battery with a dangerous weapon and other charges.
One officer who was sitting in one of the cruisers that Josa struck was evaluated for possible serious injuries. No details were released concerning any possible injuries or the officer's treatment.
